The VC baseball team had its four-game winning streak halted in a 7-2 decision at Santa Barbara Thursday afternoon. Reiss Calvin had a pair of hits, including a double, with a run scored and a run batted in and Ramon Torres recorded an RBI single in the game for the Pirates (9-12, 4-4). Nick Schnopp scored the other run for Ventura in the middle game of the three-game set with the Vaqueros.

Ventura gave up three runs in the bottom of the second inning before scoring one in the top of the third. Schnopp led off with a single down the left field line and stole second before Calvin doubled him home two outs later.

SBCC slowly took control of the game with single runs in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings before Ventura scored again in the eighth. Calvin opened the frame with a walk, and eventually scored on Torres' two-out single to center.

Hunter Jones made the start for VC on the mound, giving up three earned runs through two-plus innings of work. The Pirates used seven pitchers in relief during the game.

The teams will complete their three-game series Saturday March 12 at Pirate Park with a 12:00 noon first pitch.
