Big Inning Costs Pirates at Santa Ana

The VC baseball team fell victim to the big inning in their 14-2 setback at Santa Ana College Saturday afternoon. The Dons scored seven runs in the bottom of the third to take control of the game and Ventura could not mount a comeback bid. Ramon Torres had three hits, including a double, and both runs batted in to lead the offense, and JR Godinez also totaled three hits.

Ventura took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning. Garrick Levesque hit a one-out double down the right field line, and one batter later, Torres singled him home for the first run of the game.

Unfortunately, the lead did not last long as the Dons plated seven runs in the bottom of the third, three unearned, t take control of the game. Three more runs an inning later made it 10-1 for Santa Ana.

VC scored one more run in the top of the sixth inning when Torres singled home Andrew Savage.

The Pirates return home on Tuesday Feb. 15 to battle College of the Canyons at Pirate Park. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
