Pirate first baseman John Oleson had a single and scored a run for Ventura Sunday in their series finale against San Joaquin Delta at Pirate Park.

After splitting the first two games, the Pirate baseball team dropped the series finale against San Joaquin Delta College 10-4 Sunday afternoon at Pirate Park. Casey Turturici was 3-4 at the plate with a triple and a double, two runs scored and a run batted in while Andrew Savage and John Oleson also recorded a hit and scored a run for Ventura. Ramon Torres and Garrick Levesque each had an RBI and Cooper Smith came out of the bullpen to pitch five innings while giving up one earned run.

The Mustangs scored early with a run in the first and two more in the second.

The Pirates (1-2) responded with two runs in the bottom half of the second to close the gap. Turturici and Savage opened the frame with consecutive singles. Then Levesque reached base on an error that scored Turturici. One out later, Torres grounded out to second base to score Savage and VC trailed 3-2.

Delta took control of the game with a four-run third inning, and the Pirates tried to keep pace in the fourth. Turturici tripled to open up the inning, but a strike-out and a run-scoring groundout dashed the hopes of a big inning.

Ventura inched closer in the eighth when Oleson Singled, stole second, and scored on Turturici's double with one out, but once again a big inning did not materialize.

VC trailed 7-4 headed to the ninth before Delta scored three more runs, only one earned, to set the final margin.

The Pirates next host Glendale on Thursday Feb. 3 at 2:00 pm at Pirate Park.
