Proffitt Pitches VC to 3-0 Win at Santa Barbara

Pirate pitcher Noah Proffitt scattered five hits in a complete game shutout at Santa Barbara Tuesday, leading Ventura to a 3-0 Western State Conference North Division victory over the Vaqueros. The freshman starter recorded four strike outs and did not give up a walk in his nine innings of work. Offensively, Steele Ledford had three hits, including a double, and scored a run to lead the way for Ventura (15-14, 5-4).

VC got on the board in the top of the third inning. Ledford had a one-out double down the left field line and Dayton Provost followed reaching base on an error while Ledford scored.

The Pirates added another run in the sixth inning. With one out, Shane Gipson reached base on an error, and JT Heade walked, sending Gipson to second base. AJ Medrano followed with a single to left field scoring Gipson and giving Ventura a 2-0 advantage.

Ventura added an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. TJ Foreman reached base with a bunt single to lead things off, ten stole second base. One out later, Chris McKee reached first base on another SBCC error, and Foreman scored from second base on the play.

Proffitt was dominant on the mound for the Pirates, throwing the team's first complete game of the season, earning his third win of the year.

Ventura continues WSC play on Thursday April 5 at Oxnard College. First pitch against the Condors is slated for 2:30 pm.
