The Ventura College baseball team just keeps the line moving. And moving. And moving...

The Pirates strung together 22 hits and scored 18 runs in defeating visiting Los Angeles Mission College Friday at Pirate Park. TJ Foreman was 4-4 at the plate with four runs scored and five runs batted in to lead the way while Steele Ledford and Shane Gipson also recorded four hits each. Chris McKee had five RBI. Blake Campbell picked up his second win of the year with six solid innings on the mound.

Ventura (3-2) posted multi-run innings in the second, third, fourth and seventh frames to come up with 22 runs offensively.

After giving up a single run in the top of the second, VC responded with three scores in the bottom half of the frame. McKee had the big hit of the inning, a two-out, bases-loaded single that scored Foreman and Eric Thrower for a 3-1 Pirate advantage.

In the third inning, VC exploded for six runs to take control of the game. Foreman and Ledford each had two-RBI hits as the Pirates sent 12 batters to the plate in the frame.

Ventura then scored four runs in the fourth inning with McKee providing another bases-juiced base hit for two more RBI.

In the fifth inning, the Pirates added another three-spot with Foreman providing the big knock once again, a two-run triple.

The Pirates added two more ruins for good measure in the bottom of the seventh.

Campbell scattered nine hits over six complete innings of work. He gave up two earned runs while striking out one batter. Taylor Goffena had three scoreless innings of relief.

Ventura has a quick turnaround with a double-header Saturday Feb. 10 at Victor Valley College in Victorville. The first game begins at 10:00 am with the second slated for 1:30pm in the High Desert.
