The Ventura College baseball team opened up on the road Friday in Rancho Cucamonga, dropping a 12-6 decision to Chaffey College. Sophomore Rudy Aguilar recorded a pair of hits with three RBI in the game while Sam Langler knocked out two base hits with two runs scored in his VC debut. Chris McKee also had two RBI in the game that was called due to darkness after eight innings.

The Pirates (0-1) fell behind 5-0 after the first two innings before putting up three runs in the top of the third. The Panthers broke out with a five-run bottom half of the third. Ventura came back with two scores in the fourth, and another run in the fifth, but two Chaffey scores in the sixth killed the Pirate comeback.

Jared Grey took the loss in his first start for the Pirates on the hill. Six VC relievers gave up two runs over 4.2 innings of work out of the pen.

Ventura returns to action in their home opener on Saturday Jan. 27. First pitch at Pirate park is slated for 12:00 noon.
