In a classic pitcher's duel, the Ventura College baseball team fell 2-0 at Moorpark Tuesday afternoon. Austin Rubick threw seven innings giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits with four strikeouts, but the VC offense never got untracked, managing just two hits on the day, both from Blake Chiaramonte. Jackson Hickert pitched one inning of scoreless relief with two K's.

Moorpark scored one run in the fourth inning on a two-out single, and then scored one in the fifth on a two-out error for the 2-0 margin.

Ventura (11-7, 2-2) had a scoring opportunity in the fifth inning when T.J. Durfee and Taylor Campos each walked with one out, but the Pirates came up empty. Ventura had two on with one out again in the sixth on Rodolfo Aguilar's walk and Chiaramonte's single, but could not plate a run.

The Pirates' best chance to score came in the eighth when Chris McKee walked to open the inning, Chiaramonte followed with a one-out single, and Brendan Griffith walked to load the bases. A 6-4-3 double play ended the rally, however, and Ventura remained scoreless.

VC is back at it on Thursday March 16, hosting Cuesta College. First pitch at Pirate Park is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
