The Ventura College baseball team traveled to San Luis Obispo to take on first place Cuesta and again was unable to produce any significant offense falling 6-0. Nate Green started for the Pirates and went seven innings allowing four runs on 10 hits with seven strikeouts but suffered the hard luck loss. Erick Allegro went 2-4 while Evyn Yamaguchi added a double.

Ventura (17-15, 10-10) struggled to string together hits on the day as they collected seven total, but only in one inning did they manage multiple hits in the same inning. Allegro was the only Pirate hitter to collect multiple hits. Tony Fonzo had a two out single in the eighth, but the runner from second was cut down at the plate to end the inning.

Green allowed three runs in the third inning, and one in the seventh, but otherwise he pitched around the potent Cougars lineup throughout the game. He mixed his pitches well to keep the Cougars off balance while picking up his seven strikeouts. David Hughes followed up the first Pirate relief pitcher in the eighth entering  with two runners to retire the next three Cougar hitters on a ground ball and pair of fly balls.

Ventura finishes the season series with Cuesta winning one game and dropping the other three. The Pirates will travel to Santa Barbara on Saturday Apr. 23 for a 1:00 pm Western State Conference North contest.
