Pirate Baseball Rally Falls Short

The Ventura College baseball spotted Allan Hancock five runs early and were unable to mount a rally in dropping a 5-3 game. Robert Stephan, Erick Allegro and Ryan Coker each picked up two hits. Allegro drove in one run. The Ventura bullpen went seven innings of scoreless relief after the Pirate starter was knocked out after the first inning.

Ventura (15-11, 8-6) fell behind 5-0 after the first inning and despite collecting nine hits and scoring three runs were unable to plate enough runs to complete the rally. VC used six different relievers following the early offensive onslaught from the Bulldogs to throw seven scoreless innings. Brandon Ward and Carlos Soto each threw two scoreless innings of relief. Ward struck out two hitters with one hit allowed. Soto allowed no hits and struck out one batter. Joey Contreras had an 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with one strikeout with Baylor Mitchell giving the Pirates .2 an inning of scoreless relief with one strikeout.

Ventura got nine hits as a team, but only was able to plate the three runs. Brison Cronenbold picked up a triple. VC left nine runners on base in the game. 

Ventura will have their conference bye and then return to Western State Conference North play on Saturday Apr. 9 with a 1:00 pm home against Moorpark. They will then travel to Moorpark on Tuesday Apr. 12 for a 2:30 pm game.
