Pirates Bats Carry Them to Win Over Hancock

Returning home for their first home game in 10 days the Ventura College baseball team's bats came alive for 15-7 win over Allan Hancock. Bryson Wallet and Brison Cronenbold had six hits between the two of them, three doubles and nine RBI while scoring three runs to propel the Pirate offense. Nate Green picked up the win with Adisson Pelupessy going 2.2 innings of scoreless relief for his sixth save.

Ventura (15-10, 8-5) opened up the second round of Western State Conference North play with an offensive explosion their second double digit run total in three games. VC took an early 9-3 lead after just four innings of play, but the Bulldogs cut into the deficit to get as close at 9-7 before another multi-run inning pushed the Pirates up 13-7 and finally 15-7 for the win. VC knocked out 16 hits in the game with four extra base hits, seven walks and three hit batters.

Cronenbold and Wallet were the top performers, but the entire Pirate starting lineup picked up at least one hit in the game and scored at least one run. Vinny Avila, Tony Fonzo and Ryan Coker each had multiple hits in the game to help the Pirates to the win. Pelupessy contributed on the offensive side with one hit, two runs scored, two RBI and a SAC bunt. Joey Sunia had a double, scored two runs with two walks. 

Green went five innings allowing six runs on four hits with three strikeouts for his fourth win of the season. Carlos Soto followed him for 1.1 innings allowing two hits and one run. Pelupessy entered with one out in the seventh inning and the Pirates up by two runs and shut down the Bulldog rally. Pelupessy had four strikeouts and allowed no baserunners in collecting the save.

Ventura will travel to Santa Maria on Saturday Apr. 2 for a 1:00 pm contest against Allan Hancock. They will then be off for one week for the WSC conference bye period before hosting rival Moorpark on Saturday Apr. 9 for a 1:00 pm game.
