Vinny Avila had a double as the Pirates fall to Citrus 2-1.

The Ventura College baseball team dropped their third game in a row in tough fashion 2-1 to Citrus College. VC starter Zachary Martirano went 6.2 innings allowing just two runs over his outing, but was dealt the loss. Tony Fonzo and Vinny Avila each had doubles. Fonzo drove in the lone Pirate run.

Ventura (7-6, 1-1) were unable to match the quality performance of their starter Martirano who stymied a Citrus offense just two days removed from a 20 run out put. Martirano allowed just seven hits and struck out one batter with no walks, but exited with runners on first and second in the seventh inning. He was relieved by Brandon Ward who retired the final hitter of the inning on a strikeout and gave the Pirates 1.2 of scoreless relief with one hit and one walk allowed. Joey Contreras made his second appearance of the season and pitched .2 of an inning with no runs allowed.

The Pirates offense though was unable to produce more than one run which was plated on a Fonzo RBI double scoring Adisson Pelupessy. Avila double to lead off an inning, but was left stranded.

VC returns to WSC North play on Tuesday Mar. 1 with a 2:00 pm game against Moorpark College at the Pirate Baseball Complex. They will then travel to Moorpark on Thursday Mar. 3 for a 2:00 pm game.
