Baseball Drops 1-0 Game at Hancock

In their second Western State Conference North game of the year, Ventura College's baseball team snapped a four game winning streak with a 1-0 loss. Ventura collected five hits in the game and five walks, but left all ten base runners on in dropping the game. Ray Lambert went eight innings allowing just 3 hits, striking out nine hitters and walking two, but was handed the tough luck loss.

Ventura (7-4, 1-1) was riding a four game winning streak as they headed north to take on AHC. The Pirates though were unable to get on track offensively with just five hits in the game and five walks. Ventura had their chances to score runs, but left 10 runners on base including late when they left the bases loaded in the seventh inning. 

Lambert went the distance for the Pirates, but was unable to pitch the ninth as Ventura didn't scratch across one run. Lambert allowed two hits in the third inning on a groundball double and then a flared single to score the one run for the Bulldogs. After that Lambert did not allow a base runner to reach third base for the final five frames of the game. 

Erick Allegro collected two singles for Ventura. Brison Cronenbold collected a double. Tony Fonzo extended a five game hitting streak with an infield single. 

Ventura appeared in the So Cal rankings this week at No. 13. They will now play a pair of non-conference games starting with a 2:00 pm contest on Thursday Feb. 25 against Pasadena City College at the Pirate Baseball Complex.
