Baseball Picks Up Road Win Over West Hills Coalinga

The Ventura College baseball team headed out to Fresno county to take on West Hills Coalinga for a two game series. The Pirates opened the two game series with a 9-5 victory in their fifth straight road game. Tony Fonzo had two hits including a double and a triple with an RBI and a run scored. Brison Cronenbold picked up two hits including a base clearing double for three RBI's and scored a run. Ray Lambert went seven innings allowing five runs on eight hits with four strikeouts for his second win.

The Pirates (5-3) looked to build off a ten run performance against Citrus in their previous game were able to score nine runs on just five hits. The five hits included three extra base hits with Cronenbold's double and Fonzo slugging a double and a triple. Adisson Pelupessy notched a hit and drove in two runs while scoring one run. Bryson Wallet added the other Pirate RBI. Ventura drew eight walks in the game and picked up a hit by pitch. Robert Stephan added a stolen base.

Ventura took an early four run advantage before West Hills responded to tie the game at four after four innings. The Pirate offense responded quickly plating five runs in the top of the fifth inning to go up 9-4 and finished off with a 9-5 win. 

Ventura will wrap up a six game road slate on Sunday Feb. 14 at West Hills Coalinga with a 12:00 pm game. They will open Western State Conference North play on Saturday Feb. 20 at home against Allan Hancock for a 2:00 pm game.
