Ventura College baseball wrapped up a three game road trip with their second match up against SoCal No. 3-ranked Cypress and dropped their first game of the trip 10-1. VC collected six hits in the game with Erick Allegro picking up two hits and Baylor Mitchell lined an rbi triple in his first college at bat. Carlos Soto threw 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.

Following back to back road wins against San Diego Mesa and Cypress the Pirates looked at an opportunity to sweep their three game trip. The Pirates had an opportunity in the first inning to go up early on the Chargers when Robert Stephan and Allegro collected back to back singles, but they were left stranded. The Chargers plated single runs in the first and second then two in the third to go up 4-0. After a lead off single by Evyn Yamaguchi who advanced to third on a steal and throwing error by the Chargers, VC had an the opportunity to claw back into the game, but when Yamaguchi was left stranded, the Chargers responded with a five run fifth inning to put the game out of reach for the Pirates.

Ventura was able to get one run on the board in the eight inning when Jacob Alonzo was hit by a pitch and Mitchell drove the first offering he saw as a college baseball player for a triple to the right centerfield gap.

The Pirates will head back out for three more road games as on Thursday Feb. 11 they travel to Citrus College for a 2 pm game. Then on Saturday Feb. 13 and Sunday Feb. 14 VC will be at West Hills Coalinga for a pair of games. Ventura will return home on Saturday Feb. 20 for a 2:00 pm game with Allan Hancock College for their Western State Conference North Opener.
