Green's Complete Game Leads Pirate Baseball to Win Over SD Mesa

On their longest road trip of the season Ventura College baseball team used the complete game effort of Nate Green to take down San Diego Mesa 4-2. Green scattered eight hits in the game and collected six strikeouts. Tony Fonzo went 3-5 with a double and a rbi. Bryson Wallet went 2-4 with an rbi and Vinny Avila added an rbi double.

The start of six straight road games for the Pirate baseball team ended with a win for Ventura (2-2). Green toed the rubber for his second start for the Pirate program following a hard luck loss at Reedley in his debut. Allowing an run in the first and a run in the second inning, Green went to work and put up six straight zeros in collecting his first victory of the season. Green didn't allow a runner past second base over the final four frames of the game. Green allowed two walks and one hit by pitch.

Fonzo continued to hit well for the Pirates early in the season. He was one of three Pirates to collect multiple hits in the game. His double was his second of the season and he drove in the Pirates fourth run of the game with two outs in the top of the ninth. Wallet started the Pirate scoring with an rbi single and the Avila scored when Mesa was unable to complete the run down of Wallet between first and second base. Avila came up huge later in the game with two outs and Brison Cronenbold on first base following his second hit of the game he roped a full count double over the right fielders head to plate the go ahead run 3-2. 

Ventura will be in Orange County on Friday Feb. 5 and Saturday Feb. 6 to take on the Cypress Chargers. On Friday Feb. 5 the game will start at 2:00 pm and the Saturday Feb. 6 game is slated for a 12:00 pm first pitch.
