With a chance to affect he Western State Conference North Division title chase, the Pirate baseball team lost to front-running Oxnard College Thursday 8-2 in the team's final road game of the season. Catcher Ryan Coker had two hits, including a double, and two RBI to lead the VC offense.
After The Condors grabbed a 1-0 lead after one inning, the Pirates came back with a run in the top of the second to tie. Adam Maciel reached base on an error and stole second. One out later, Coker singled Maciel around to home for the 1-1 tie.
Oxnard then took control of the game with two scores in the third inning, one more in the fourth, and a pair of runs in the sixth inning. in the seventh, Jordan Simon took a two-out walk, and Coker doubled him home for the Piraets' second run.
OC followed with two runs in the eighth for the final 8-2 margin.
Jackson Simonsgaard started on the mound for VC, taking the loss while Taylor Campos, Tyler Esquivel and Alex Van Es all saw relief duty on the mound.
Tony Fonzo also had a pair of base knocks for VC while Michael Volaski and Codi Santana each had a hit, as well.
The Pirates will close the 2015 campaign on Friday April 24 at Pirate Park against the Condors. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
