Pirates Come Up Short Under the Lights at Mt. SAC

Playing under the lights for the first time this year, the Pirate baseball team came out on the short end of a 7-4 decision at Mt. San Antonio College Thursday night.  Bradley Fullerton led the Pirates with a pair of hits and three RBI in the loss.

The Mounties got off to a fast start, scoring three runs in the first and another in the second.  VC responded with two runs in the third inning to halve the deficit.  Fullerton singled in Josh Olson, then two batters later, Tony Fonzo plated Adisson Pelupessy by reaching base on a fielder's choice.

Mt. SAC scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but VC made it interesting with two more scores in the seventh.  Following two singles and a hit by pitch, Fullerton hit a one-out single to score Erick Allegro and Taylor Campos, making the score 6-4.

The Mounties added an insurance run in the bottom half of the seventh in the 7-4 victory.

Colton Follett started on the mound for VC (1-6), pitching five innings and giving up six runs, four earned.  Billy Davidson pitched into the seventh, allowing one unearned run, and Alex Van Es threw 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.

The Pirates will begin Western State COnference play this weekend, traveling to Santa Maria to take on Allan Hancock College on saturday Feb. 14 at 1:00 pm.  VC returns home to face the Bulldogs on Tuesday Feb. 17 at 2:00 pm.
