The Pirate baseball continued their season-opening road trip Friday with a  4-3 extra inning loss at SoCal No. 7 Cypress College Friday afternoon.  Sophomore Dylan Colman had a pair of hits and an RBI, and scored the tying run in the top of the ninth inning for VC (0-2). Freshman Jackson Simonsgaard had a strong outing on the mound, throwing six innings and allowing just three hits and two runs while striking out 10.

Cypress took an early 1-0 lead and the Pirates responded with a pair of scores in the fourth. Coleman had a bases-loaded single to score Carlos Sanchez, and Adisson Pelupessy's sacrifice fly plated Spencer Dubaich.

The Chargers responded with one run in the bottom of the fourth, and they jumped back on top with an unearned run in the seventh.  Jordan Simon doubled in the top of the ninth to score Coleman, sending the game to extra innings.

Simonsgaard had a strong outing on the bump to start the game, and Alex Van Es and Taylor Campos threw one and two scoreless innings, respectfully.  Billy Davidson took the hill for VC in extra innings, giving up an unearned run with two outs in the eleventh.  The Pirate defense, which was ranked No. 1 in Southern California a year ago, committed six errors in the game.

Sophomores Coleman and Bradley Fullerton collected multi hit games with Coleman also collecting his second stolen base of the season. Freshmen Codi Santana added a multi hit day and scored a run for the Pirates.

The Pirates and Chargers are back at in on Saturday Jan. 31 at 12:00 pm before VC travels to Cerritos on Thursday Feb. 5.  Ventura returns to Pirate Park on Friday Feb. 6 at 2:00 pm against West Hills, beginning a two-game home set.
