Pirate Comeback Falls Short

BASEBALL:  After scoring one run in the eighth inning, the Pirates crossed the plate twice in the bottom of the ninth to send the game to come back from a 6-3 deficit, but despite holding Cuesta scoreless for the next five frames, VC could not complete the comeback, falling 9-6 to the Cougars in 15 innings Friday at Pirate Park. Bradley Fullerton had three hits while Tyler Watson had a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored. Tim Ginther also had a pair of hits and scored twice for VC (11-19, 7-11). Steven Martinez threw six scoreless innings of relief for Ventura before giving up three unearned runs in the top of the 15th.

Ventura jumped out to a 3-1 lead after the first inning, but Cuesta scored once in the second and twice in the third to go ahead. They added single runs in the sixth and eighth, setting the stage for the Pirate comeback. Despite the loss, Ventura captured the season series from Cuesta 3-1.

Ventura hits the non-conference trail in the next week with a home date with Glendale on Tuesday April 17 before traveling to Pasadena on Wednesday April 16 and Mt. San Antonio on Friday April 18. First pitch against the Vaqueros is scheduled for 2:30 pm at Pirate Park.
