BASEBALL:  They put up a fight until the end, but ultimately the Pirate baseball team did not have enough to tackle the No. 1-ranked Oxnard Condors. VC dropped a 7-3 decision Thursday at Pirate Park as Oxnard swept the season series from the Pirates. Ventura (9-17, 5-9) allowed five unearned runs in the fourth inning on a two-out rally following an error in the game-deciding frame. Harrison Crawford was the only Pirate with two hits and he also scored a run. David Newland had a two-RBI single in the ninth inning and Shayne Distl knocked in a run with a single in the eighth.

Tyler Watson took the loss, tossing four innings despite only allowing two earned runs in the game. VC followed up with four relievers who held Oxnard scoreless for the final five frames.

Ventura will host Los Angeles Pierce on Saturday Apr. 5 at 1:00 pm before traveling to Woodland Hills to close out the season series with the Brahmas on Tuesday Apr. 8.
