Big First Inning Propels VC

BASEBALL:  Ventura College baseball took advantage of a four-run first inning and picked up another road victory on Tuesday at No. 9 Allan Hancock College, 7-3. The Pirates did not have many hit with four, but they made them count along with four walks and three hit batters. VC (8-14, 4-6) was able to put up seven runs, four in the first and three in the sixth for the victory. Tyler Watson had a hit with two RBI and he scored another run while Harrison Crawford added a two-RBI double and also scored. Shawn Domke picked up the win on the mound with 6.2 solid innings.

Tim Ginther took one for the team twice, reaching base two times after being hit by a pitch, and walked once, coming around to score two runs. Brian Magana added a double. On the mound, Domke allowed 11 hits and three runs while striking out four Bulldogs. Steven Martinez entered the game and pitched 2.1 innings to close out the victory allowing two hits and striking out three.

The Pirate win completes their first pass through the rugged Western State Conference North Division which currently has four teams ranked in the top-12 in Southern California. Ventura will begin its second round of conference play on Thursday March 27 at Santa Barbara in a 2:30 pm contest. VC returns home on Saturday March 29 against the Vaqueros.
