VC Misses Chances in Loss

BASEBALL:  The Pirate baseball team left 12 men on base Thursday afternoon, including eight in the final four innings of play in their 2-1 11-inning loss to visiting Citrus College at Pirate Park. Ventura (4-3) left two on in the eighth after tying the score at 1-1, and they left the bases loaded in the 10th inning. Finally, they had two runners on base when the game came to an end in the 11th. Sophomore Shawn Domke had a string outing on the mound, giving up one run in 6.1 innings with six strikeouts, but was not involved in the decision. Sophomores Brian Magana and Tim Ginther each collected two hits and Ginther added a stolen base.

Citrus struck first with a bases loaded walk in the top of the first and the Pirates responded with a run in the eighth inning. The Owls plated a run in the top half of the 11th and held off a two-out rally with the tying run at second base to pick up the win.

The Pirates will host Compton College on Saturday afternoon at Pirate Park before heading out for four straight road games. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 pm against the Tartars.
