BASEBALL:  The Ventura College baseball team traveled with their brooms Tuesday, defeating Cerritos 9-3 to sweep the 2-game season series from the Falcons. Harrison Crawford led the 13-hit offensive effort by VC (4-2) with four hits, including two doubles and a triple, with three RBI and scoring once. Tyler Watson continued his hot streak at the plate with three hits, including a double, scoring three runs and driving in two. Seven of the nine Pirate starters collected a hit. Watson did double-duty, pitching 7.1 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, for the victory.

Ventura jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first inning, and added two runs each in the fifth, seventh, and eighth frames to subdue the Falcons.

Shayne Distl collected two hits, including a double, while driving in one run and scoring another while Tim Ginther added a triple with a pair of walks and scoring two runs on the day. Jordan Simon, Garret Serino and Dylan Colman each picked up hits and scored a run with Simon adding a stolen base.

On the mound, Watson allowed six hits and struck out three Cerritos hitters to pick up his first victory of the season. The Pirate bullpen held the Falcons scoreless over the final 1.2 innings with Logen Letofsky picking up the final four outs of the game, including inducing a game ending 6-4-3 double play.

VC will return to Pirate Park for a pair of non-conference games, beginning on Thursday Feb. 13 against Citrus at 2:00 pm. Saturday Feb. 15, the Pirates will host Compton at 1:00 pm.
