BASEBALL:  The Pirate baseball team returned to the field Saturday following a rain-out on Thursday and struggled offensively, dropping a 2-0 decision to No. 8 Mt. San Antonio College Saturday afternoon at Pirate Park. VC's bats could not capitalize on a strong outing from starting pitcher Eusebio Navarro, who threw seven innings allowing one unearned run with five strikeouts. Brian Magana had a pair of hits for VC (3-2) while Tyler Watson had a double a hit by pitch. VC's offense was limited to six hits on the day.

The Pirates and Mounties traded zeros for the first six frames with each team stranding several runners in scoring position. The Mounties took a 1-0 lead on a 2-out Pirate fielding error and then add another run on a solo home run. The Pirates failed to get a single hit with runners on base on the day.

Reliever Steven Martinez threw a scoreless ninth inning for Ventura, picking up a strikeout.

Ventura will travel to Cerritos on Tuesday Feb. 11 for a 2:00 pm contest to round out a two-game swing with the Falcons before returning home on Thursday and Saturday, Feb. 13 and 15 against Citrus and Compton.
