VC's beach volleyball duo of Savannah Marchese and Averi Carter finished in the Top-10 in the state Saturday at the CCCAA State Pairs Tournament in Irvine. After winning two matches on Friday, the pair dropped a decision in the Round of 16 Saturday to bring their season to a close.

Marchese and Carter dropped their match on Saturday to the eventual state champions from Santa Barbara 21-13, 21-13. The loss put the VC pair in a tie for ninth place in the state out of over 200 pairs who played in 2022.

Marchese and Carter's finish in the best for a Pirate team under the current format of pairs competition in the emerging sport, and the first Top-10 since Sariah Flores and Armonee Hunter advanced to the State Elite Eight in 2017.

Marchese, from Camarillo High School, has signed to play beach volleyball at NAIA San Diego Christian College while Carter, a Foothill Tech product, will return for VC's indoor volleyball season in the fall.
