Marchese & Carter WSC Runner-Up, Three Pairs to SoCal's

VC's beach volleyball duo of Savannah Marchese and Averi Carter won a pair of matches Saturday before falling in the Western State Conference Tournament final at the Ventura Harbor Cove Courts. Meanwhile, VC's teams of Alexis Baloyo and Amelie Zubia placed fifth and Amaris Garcia and Katey Mulville were sixth on the final day of WSC competition. All three pairs will advance to the SoCal Regional Tournament May 6 at El Camino College.

In the quarterfinal round, unfortunate seeding matched up Marchese and Carter against Pirate teammates Baloyo and Zubia. In a three-set contest, the former defeated the latter 21-18, 16-21, 15-12 to move to the semifinal round.

In another quarterfinal, Garcia and Mulville dropped a 21-17, 21-16 decision to a duo from Santa Barbara.

Marchese and Carter then won their semifinal match-up against the No.2 team from SBCC in three sets, 19-21, 21-15, 15-8. In the championship match, they fell to the Vaquero's No. 1 team 21-13, 21-10.

In the consolation semifinals, Baloyo and Zubia easily got back into form with a 21-10, 21-11 win over a team from Bakersfield while Garcia and Mulville defeated Santa Barbara's No. 5 pair 21-14, 21-11.

In the fifth place match, Baloyo and Zubia got the best of teammates Garcia and Mulville, 22-20, 21-19.

All three Ventura duos in action Saturday will move on to the Southern California Regional Tournament on Friday May 6 at El Camino College in Torrance.
