Pirates Sweep Regular Season Finale vs. BC, MC

The Ventura College beach volleyball team swept its regular season finale on Friday, defeating Bakersfield and Moorpark at Ocean Beach in Santa Monica. The Pirates started the day with a 5-0 victory over the Renegades before blanking the Raiders 5-0 in the nightcap. VC's No. 4 pair of Grace Williams and Madelyn Grajeda finished early in each of their matches to lead the Pirates (14-4, 8-2), who clinched the runner-up position in the Western State Conference standings.

In the opener, the Pirates easily blanked the Renegades. After the No. 5 team of Monica Montoya and Lexi Donnelly won by default, The Pirates no. 2 duo Savannah Marchese and Averi Carter dominated their opponents 21-8, 21-2. Williams and Grajeda won their No. 4 match, 21-8, 21-12, before Alexis Baloyo and Amelie Zubia won their No. 1 contest, 21-11, 21-13. Amaris Garcia and Katey Mulville finished off the shutout with a 21-12, 21-10 win in the No. 3 slot.

In VC's second match of the day, they defeated Moorpark 5-0. Williams and Grajeda posted the first win over the Raiders, 21-11, 21-12 in the No. 4 match. Montoya and Donnelly followed with a 21-14, 21-18 win at No. 5 and Baloyo and Zubia clinched with Pirate victory with a 21-14, 21-15 triumph at No. 1. Garcia and Mulville posted their 21-15, 21-17 win at No. 3 while Marchese and Carter finished off the day with a 21-18, 21-11 win at No. 2.

The Pirates travel to Santa Barbara's East Beach on Friday April 29 for the first two rounds of the Western State Conference Pairs Tournament beginning at 10:00 am.  The draw will be completed on Saturday April 30 at the Ventura Harbor Courts hosted by Bakersfield, also beginning at 10:00 am.

Ventura is also in hopes of qualifying for the Southern California Regional Playoffs for the fourth time in the program's seven-year history. The regionals will be held Tuesday May 3 at a location to be determined.
