Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown took third place at the Western State Conference Beach Volleyball Pairs Tournament Friday in Bakersfield. The duo won their elite eight match before falling in the semifinals in a heart-breaking three set match. Fanslow and Mckeown were able to rebound, however, to sweep the third-place match.
The Pirate's No. 3 pair began the day by defeating the No. 1 team from Moorpark College in come-from-behind fashion, 15-21, 21-10, 15-5.
In the conference semifinals, Fanslow and Mckeown jumped out to an early lead, taking the opening set 21-14 against Bakersfield's No. 1 pair. VC could not hold the momentum, however, as they dropped the second set21-15, and fell in the deciding set 15-11.
The VC pair rebounded in the third-place match, defeating the No.1 team from Santa Monica, 23-21, 21-17.
With their first win of the day, Fanslow and Mckeown qualified for the CCCAA SoCal Regional Beach Volleyball Pairs Tournament to be held Friday May 4.
