Fanslow and Mckeown Finish Season at SoCal RegionalsMay 04, 2018VC beach volleyball pair Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown finished the 2018 season just points away from qualifying for the CCCAA State Beach Volleyball Pairs Tournament in regional play in Irvine Friday. The duo won one match and lost two, the final one in three sets by just four points, bringing to a close the Pirates' 2018 beach volleyball season.

Fanslow and Mckeown Take 3rd at WSC ChampionhipsApril 27, 2018Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown took third place at the Western State Conference Beach Volleyball Pairs Tournament Friday in Bakersfield. The duo won their elite eight match before falling in the semifinals in a heart-breaking three set match. Fanslow and Mckeown were able to rebound, however, to sweep the third-place match.

Beach Volleyball Sends One Pair to WSC Elite EightApril 25, 2018The Pirates' beach volleyball team had one of its five entrants advance to the Elite Eight of the Western State Conference Pairs Tournament played Wednesday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. In an unfotunate quirk of the brackets, Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown defeated teammates Janessa Simental and Braxton Jessie in the round of 16 to advance to Friday's final rounds of the draw in Bakersfield.

Beach Splits Final Day of Regular SeasonApril 20, 2018The VC beach volleyball team traveled to Bakersfield on Friday for the final day of the regular season, splitting a pair of Western State Conference matches. The Pirates (12-7, 7-3) defeated Antelope Valley 4-1 in the early contest before falling to Moorpark 3-2 in the second match. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown in the No. 3 slot were the only Pirates to post two wins on the day.

VC defeated the host Corsairs 4-1 in the first match of the day before prevailing over Victor Valley in the second by an identical margin. The No. 5 team of Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia recorded a pair of straight set wins for the Pirates (11-6, 6-2) on the day.

Pirates Sweep Regular Season Home FinalsApril 06, 2018The Pirate beach volleyball team swept a pair of Western State Conference matches in their regular season home finale Friday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. The Pirates (9-6, 4-2) swept Antelope Valley 5-0 in the morning match before earning a measure of redemption in the afternoon, defeating Bakersfield 4-1 after falling to the Renegades 3-2 earlier in the season. The No. 2 team of Armonee Hunter and Kasie Spencer clinched the afternoon match with their three-set victory after giving up just 22 points in the morning match.

Beach Volleyball Splits Pair at Harbor CoveMarch 23, 2018The rains subsided overnight and the sun peaked through the clouds Friday, making for a nice day for volleyball at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. The Pirate beach volleyball team, hosting a five-match Western State Conference schedule, split a pair of contests on the day. In the morning competition, VC (7-6, 2-2) lost a closely fought 3-2 decision to Moorpark before coming back in the afternoon match to sweep Victor Valley 5-0. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Shea Mckeown at No. 3, and Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia at No. 5 both were double winners on the day.

Pirates Split Pair to Open Conference PlayMarch 16, 2018The VC beach volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday at Cal State Bakersfield to open Western State Conference play. VC fell to host Bakersfield College in a tight 3-2 contest to open play before coming back to defeat Santa Monica 4-1. Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia were the only double winners for the Pirates (6-5, 1-1), winning twice at the No. 5 slot.

Beach VB Splits Pair in Huntington BeachMarch 09, 2018The Pirates' beach volleyball team split a pair of matches in Huntington Beach Friday, defeating Fullerton 4-1 before narrowly falling to Golden West, 3-2. Taylor Benitez-Fanslow and Sha Mckeown posted two victories at the No. 3 slot, as did Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia at No. 5 to lead Ventura (5-4) on the day.

Pirates Battle PCC Club, AVC and Elements to Win Two MatchesMarch 02, 2018On a cold, blustery day at the Ventura Marina, the Pirates' beach volleyball team battled the elements and their opponents to capture matches against visiting Pasadena City Club and Antelope Valley Friday. VC (4-3) shut out PCC Club in the opening match of the day 5-0 before winning a convincing 4-1 decision over Antelope Valley in the second. Sofia Gomez and Jordan Neria at No. 4 and Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia at No. 5 were each dominant in taking two matches on the day, allowing 37 and 38 points, respectively, in their four sets.

Beach Volleyball Competes at CSU NorthridgeFebruary 23, 2018The Pirates' beach volleyball team competed in the Ramon Calderon Cup at Cal State Northridge Friday, falling to the host Matadors and to Long Beach City College by identical 4-1 scores. Janessa Simental and Braxton Jessie captured the No. 1 match against CSUN in the opener while Armonee Hunter and Kasie Spencer won the No. 2 match in three games against the Vikings in the second contest of the day.

Pirates Sweep Mounties at the BeachFebruary 21, 2018The VC beach volleyball team completed a sweep of visiting Mt. San Antonio College Wednesday at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina. In windy and cool conditions, all five Pirate teams swept through the Mounties with Carina Cates and Danielle Garcia taking the most lopsided score, winning 21-14, 21-2.

Beach Volleyball Opens Season With SplitFebruary 16, 2018The Ventura College beach volleyball team opened its 2018 season with a split in a pair of matches at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina Friday. The Pirates (1-1) defeated Rio Hondo 3-2 in the opener before falling 5-0 to Grossmont College. The Pirates' No. 5 team of Danielle Garcia and Carina Cates had the biggest win of the day, sweeping their opponents from Rio Hondo 21-8, 21-12.
