Pirates Sweep to Perfect WSC Ending

The Pirates' beach volleyball team swept Victor Valley and Antelope Valley Friday at the Harbor Cove Courts to close out a perfect Western State Conference season.  The 2017 WSC champions did not lose a set in the two matches, defeating both visitors 5-0. The No. 4 duo of Madison Wright and Janessa Simental led the way for Ventura (13-4, 6-0), allowing a total of 18 points in their four sets.

The Pirates easily swept Victor Valley in the first match of the day. Wright and Simental prevailed 21-4, 21-2 and the No. 5 team of Carina Cates and Renae Ellis won 21-4, 21-3. Mikayla Spears and Brianna Finch won their No. 2 match 21-7, 21-5 while Armonee Hunter and Sariah Flores triumphed in the no. 3 slot, 21-8, 21-5.  Tori Hiott and Paris Dosch played the closest match of the contest, winning at No. 1, 21-11, 21-5.

VC completed the perfect conference season with a 5-0 victory over the Marauders.  Wright and Simental had an easy time once again at No. 4 with a 21-7, 21-5 win and Paulina Iverson and Daisy Martinez posted a 21-10, 21-5 win at No. 5. Hunter and Flores coasted to victory, 21-5, 21-11 while Hiott and Dosch won 21-11, 21-9. Spears and Finch closed out the match with a 21-13, 21-15 win.

Ventura finished the regular season with a perfect 6-0 mark in WSC play, bringing home the program's first conference title.  The Pirates will next host the WSC Pairs Tournament on Friday April 28 at the Ventura Marina.  They will also host a SoCal Regional Playoff contest on Tuesday May 2, also at Harbor Cove Beach.  The CCCAA Team and Pairs Championships will be held Friday and Saturday, May 5 and 6, respectively.
