Pirates Sweep Two in Home Opener at the Beach

The Ventura College beach volleyball team opened their home schedule at the Harbor Cove Courts at the Ventura Marina with a pair of wins Friday.  VC defeated Rio Hondo 5-0 in the first contest of the day before sweeping Santa Rosa 5-0 in the second match. The No. 1 team of Tori Hiott and Paris Dosch went 4-0 in their two matches, as did the No. 3 duo of Sariah Flores and Armonee Hunter.

Ventura (3-3) began the day with a 5-0 sweep over Rio Hondo.  Hiott and Dosch won the No. 1 slot 21-12, 21-14 while Flores and Hunter prevailed at No. 3, 24-22, 21-18. Mikayla Spears and Brianna Finch won the match of the day at No. 2, coming from behind after falling in the first set, 18-21. The pair came back to win the second in a thriller, 27-25, and closed out their opponents 16-14. Janessa Simental and Paulina Iverson won at No. 4 in three sets, 22-20, 16-21, 15-9, and Daisy Martinez and Carina Cates prevailed at No. 5, 21-17, 21-4.

VC also welcomed the club team from Santa Rosa College, defeating the Bear Cubs 5-0 in the second match of the day.  Hiott and Dosch won 21-11, 21-9 while Spears and Finch triumphed 21-16, 21-19. Flores and hunter posted a 21-15, 21-8 victory while the teams of Simental and Iverson, and Martinez and Cates each won by forfeit.

The Pirates will travel to Huntington Beach on Friday March 17 to take on host Golden West, Fullerton and Santa Ana before hosting another triangle match on Friday March 24 against club teams from Los Angeles Pierce and Santa Monica.
