Beach Volleyball Splits Opener in San Diego

The VC beach volleyball team split its opening two matches of the 2017 in San Diego Friday. VC fell to host San Diego Mesa 5-0 before coming back to defeat Benedictine University 3-2.  THe No. 1 team of Paris Dosch and Tori Hiott extended their opener against the Olympians to three sets before taking their second match of the day, as did the No. 3 team of Sariah Flores and Paulina Iverson.

In a contest that was closer than the final score indicated, Ventura fell to San Diego Mesa in the opener Friday.  Dosch and Hiott fell in three sets, 18-21, 21-19, 15-7. Flores and Iverson came from behind to force a deciding set before dropping a 21-16, 17-21, 15-10 decision. Ventura's No. 4 team of Janessa Simental and Daisy Martinez also took their match to three sets, losing 21-17, 14-21, 15-11.

Ventura 3, Benedictine University 2
The Pirates earned their first win of the season over Benedictine University, 3-2. Dosch and Hiott swept through to victory in the No. 1 slot, 21-8, 21-14, as did Flores and Iverson in the No. 3 position, 21-18, 21-10. Mikayla Spears and Brianna Finch came from behind to win at No. 2, 18-21, 21-14, 15-11 to clinch the win for Ventura.

VC will participate in the Ramon Calderon Cup at Cal State Northridge on Friday March 3, playing matches against the host Matadors and against Long Beach City College.  Ventura will return for its home opener Friday March 10 at the beautiful Ventura Marina Harbor Cove Courts.
