Beach Volleyball Impressive in Pair of WSC Wins

The Ventura College women's beach volleyball team dominated a pair of matches in Western State Conference play. In the opener the Pirates took down Antelope Valley by a score of 5-0 and then followed it up with another shut out win over Los Angeles Pierce 5-0. Ventura's No. 1, 2, 3 and 5 teams did not drop a set on the day while their No. 4 team lost just one set while winning both of their matches.

VC started the match off with their No. 1 team of Tori Hiott and Sarah Veloz won their match in straight sets with ten point and eight point wins in their two sets. Cassandra Lacanilao and Cristal Gonzalez teamed up to win both sets of their No. 4 match by identical scores of 21-5. In the match the Pirates did not drop a set. In five of their ten set wins the Ventura teams did not allow double digit points to their opponent.

Paris Dosch and Brittney Mukhar followed up their straight sets win in the opener of the day with another straight set win by scores of 21-13 and 21-8. The Pirates No. 3 team of Sierra Joyner and Cassidy Simental were also straight set winners for their second straight match with 21-6 and 21-18 wins for VC. Finally, the Pirates No. 5 team of Kierra Joyner and Braxton Jessie were also straight set winners going undefeated on the day with wins of 21-8 and 21-17.

Ventura continues their strong first season in beach volleyball as they now stand 7-2 overall on the season and are 5-1 in Western State Conference play. They will be back on the sand Friday Apr. 8 for a pair of matches. The opener at 10:00 am will be against Antelope Valley in WSC play. Then at 12:00 pm they will take on Santa Barbara City College's club team in a non-conference match.
