Although it has been a difficult season for the Pirate softball team, there have also been many positives on the field, including the play of Savanna Higgins. The freshman had been the anchor defensively for VC and is also leading the team in hitting at .434/.484/.717. She leads the team in triples and home runs and is tied for the team's best hit total. She is second on the squad in runs scored and runs batted in. The Ventura High School product also has a .957 fielding percentage with four errors in 60 fielding chances at shortstop. Last week Savanna had a pair of hits, including a triple, in Ventura's victory over Oxnard. For her efforts, Savanna has been named this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week sponsored by M & M Sports.
