Kylie Ibbotson & Lamonte James, Pirate Volleyball & Football - Week of Nov. 20

VC Athletics had a huge Thanksgiving week as the Pirate football team won its SCFA semifinal game at Fullerton and the Ventura volleyball team swept a pair of playoff games to advance to their first 3C2A State Elite Eight since 2000.  Leading the way were some impressive individual performances, including Kylie Ibbotson's two games on the court and Lamonte James' outstanding effort on the field.

Ibbotson, a sophomore from Moorpark High School, was strong at the net with 15 combined kills, posting just two errors in 40 swings in the triumphs. She was solid defensively with 14 combined digs, hit a pair of aces, and provided two block assists. Against Santa Monica in the regional final, Kylie recorded nine kills while hitting an outstanding .421 as the Pirates swept the Corsairs.

James, meanwhile, totaled 255 yards from scrimmage in VC's 27-24 win at Fullerton to push VC to its fourth-ever regional final appearance this upcoming week. He had 27 carries for 195 yards and two touchdowns on the ground was Ventura's leading receiver with five catches for 60 yards. The sophomore from Woodbridge, VA makes up half of the Pirates' dynamic duo of running backs with Jaylen Thompson, both of whom gained over 1,000 yards this season.

For their extraordinary efforts in the post-season pushing VC into December contests, both Kylie and Lamonte have been named this week's VC Pirate Student Athletes of the Week sponsored by M & M Sports.
