The 2023 season got off to a strong start for the VC men's water polo team with a 2-1 mark at the North vs. South Tournament in Merced, including a pair of wins against community college competition. Leading the charge for VC was freshman utility player Owen Cugnoni who netted 17 goals in the three games. The Oxnard High School product led the way with five goals in the win against Merced on Saturday and had nine scores in VC's narrow loss to NCAA Division II UC Merced. For his efforts, Owen is this week's VC Pirate Student Athletes of the Week sponsored by M&M Sports.
