The VC track and field teams are off and running for 2019, and highlighting the early season is the performance of sophomore Brieanna Tafoya. The middle-distance runner from Foothill Tech High School has covered the 400m, 800m and 1500m in most meets this season, and last weekend at the Occidental Distance Carnival she shined in the 800m. Taking the lead from the onset, Brieanna handily won the event, running 2:19.25 which ranked her No. 4 in Southern California, No. 5 in the state, and No. 2 all-time in the Pirate record books. For her efforts, Brieanna has been named this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week.
