When one looks at a stat sheet following the Pirate football team's game each week, Jaylen Watson's name does not pop out. The sophomore defensive back from Augusta, GA rarely has passes thrown in his direction, yet Saturday he made three huge plays in VC's 23-10 Northern Conference victory over Bakersfield at the Sportsplex. Watson had a pair of interceptions against the Renegades and recovered a fumble, all at key points in the game. His first interception was at the Pirates' goal line ending one BC scoring threat in the second quarter, and his fumble recovery was at the VC 16-yard line ending another just before halftime. His second interception came late in the fourth quarter, sealing the Pirates' 16th straight conference win, 23-10. For his efforts, Jaylen Watson has been named this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week.
