The Pirate softball team is on the cusp of its first Western State Conference title since 2012, and sophomore Brittany Perez is leading the way. The Buena High School product leads the team in almost every offensive category, including batting average (.482), hits (54), runs (49), home runs (11) and RBI (45). None of her runs batted in were any bigger than her walk-off hit in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead VC to a 6-5 win over visiting Bakersfield last Tuesday, allowing VC to be two wins away from at least a share of the WSC title. Brittany has been named this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week proudly sponsored by Snapper Jack's Taco Shack.
