The Pirates' 2017 swim season began last week in wet conditions at the Ventura Aquatic Center with the Western State Conference John Joseph Pentathlon. Freshman Jack Burleigh got the year off to a great start, finishing sixth overall among all the conference swimmers in the combined five events of 100m butterfly, backstroke, breast stroke, freestyle and individual medley. He also had the fastest time in the 100m backstroke with a time of 57.73. Jack, a Buena High School graduate, is this week's VC Pirate Student Athlete of the Week proudly sponsored by Snapper Jack's Taco Shack.
