VC Athletics Transfers 36 Student Athletes to 4-Year Schools in '21

In a year like no other with online learning, season cancelations and COVID-shortened schedules, Ventura College Athletics still transferred 36 student athletes to four-year schools for the 2020-21 academic year, as of August 10. Of those transfers, 19 plan on continuing competing in their sport(s) across all divisions of intercollegiate competition. There were 15 transfers who received athletic scholarships while 20 received academic aid to their new school.

The Pirate transfers will be headed to 29 different schools across 12 states around the country.

The number of transfers has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which has gripped the entire world. Many students who would have matriculated from VC in 2020-21 are staying to complete their eligibility with the Pirates, while others may have had limited transfer opportunities due to a back-log of student athletes remaining at the four-year level to complete their eligibility.  The Ventura County Community College District opted out of a shortened season for fall sports, and spring sports participated in limited campaigns in 2021. All student athletes did not lose a year of eligibility this year by California Community College Athletic Association modifications for the pandemic.

Ventura College offers a comprehensive athletic program with 19 sports, 10 women's and nine men's competing under the California Community College Athletic Association. Pirate teams primarily compete in the Western State Conference and VC football competes in the Southern California Football Association's National Northern Conference.
