Ventura College Athletics is achieving great success in the classroom and on the field! Please consider participating in the #HaveAHeartforVC fundraising campaign for our student athletes February 14 - 22, 2021!
The fall 2020 semester was an especially difficult one for our student athletes as most classes were moved online due to the ongoing COVID-19 health emergency. Additionally, all intercollegiate competition was canceled and in-person practices and workouts were limited to outside conditioning activities or teams met remotely via zoom. Our students persevered in the face of these obstacles, however, with 99 earning recognition on VC's Dean's List by posting a 3.5 or better grade point average in 12 or more units. Of those honorees, 47 earned a perfect 4.0 GPA signifying all A's in their classes.
Meanwhile, 13 of the Pirates' 19 intercollegiate athletic teams achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 or better with the VC Athletic Department earning an overall GPA of 3.16. The 13 teams include: Baseball (3.09), Women's Basketball (3.65), Women's Cross Country (3.48), Men's Golf (3.40), Women's Soccer (3.22), Softball (3.12), Men's Swimming & Diving (3.12), Women's Swimming & Diving (3.22), Men's Tennis (3.38), Women's Tennis (3.69), Men's Track & Field (3.17), Volleyball (3.28), and Women's Water Polo (3.48).
Ventura College Athletics has long been a champion of academic achievement among its student athletes. Many Pirate programs have earned state and national honors for their work in the classroom, and VC has had 39 California Community College Athletic Association State Scholar Teams since the award was created in 1996, a state record. VC has had at least one team honored academically by the CCCAA each year for the past 20 years.
Ventura College provides a complete support system for the student athletes that includes: academic advising, two certified athletic trainers, two equipment managers, faculty mentor programs, tutoring programs, study tables, and complete indoor and outdoor facilities. Training and conditioning are possible year-round in temperate, seaside San Buenaventura.
We provide a quality athletic program both in breadth and depth of offerings that will challenge our student athletes' physical skills, while being sensitive and responsive to academic needs, preparing our students to transfer to a four-year college or university.
Ventura College is a member of the Western State Conference (WSC) and the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA). We abide by the CCCAA constitution, bylaws, and WSC sports guides. Football participates under the direction of the Southern California Football Association (SCFA)
